* The Richmond Beach walk (YRE) has been replaced by a walk going through the Lake Ballinger area and starting at the Starbucks in Aurora Village. The first few months of this year have had high attendance for this new route. * We are still looking for a club secretary. * The club's last Wednesday night walk is March 20th. See info here. * Dorm Batson and Grover Partee have volunteered to serve as event coordinators for the Labor Day Walk. * Sam Bess and John Barry are serving as event coordinators for the New Year's Eve/New Year's Day walks 2002. * The club's TNT (Thursday Night Trek) event will be Jun 20th at Lincoln Park. More under AVA News & Views. * The Emerald City Wanderers voted to support the new Washington State Challenge. See our next issue for more details.
The club YREs in 2001 had the following number of walkers:
Grover Partee has put together a new YRE in Ballard in coordination with Feet First. Feet First is Puget Sound's Pedestrian Advocacy organization. They have been around since 1996, and are a founding member of the America Walks Coalition.
Feet First is producing a Ballard Walking Guide which will feature a walk in old Ballard put together by the Ballard Historical Society (several miles in length) and this new volkswalk that Grover developed.
The Ballard Walking Guide is intended to draw attention to and strengthen the valuable pedestrian culture present in Ballard. The new volkswalk should be available by Memorial Day weekend in 2002 and then be a Year-Round-Event in 2003.
Club Trips 2002
The Social chair did a survey at the January meeting to see where club members were interested in walking. Based on the survey, two day trips and two weekend trips are planned for 2002. Read all about the plans here.

Good Ideas
It was suggested at the Feb 14th meeting that the club have a board posted at each of our events with the name of our club, an invitation to join and information about our club and events. Good idea!
