Easter Walk, Mar 30, 2002

The Emerald City Wanderers Easter walk this year is Saturday, March 10th.  It starts at the University of Washington and the route includes a wetlands and Seattle's Washington Park Arboretum.

The walk start/finish and parking is at the University of Washington's E5 parking lot.  The walk will cross the Montlake bridge and pass through a wetlands before entering the Arboretum.

The Arboretum in Seattle is one of the finest plant collections in western North America.  This 230 acre, park-like setting contains over 5500 different kinds of plants.  Its prominent collections include conifers, oaks, hollies, rhododendrons, chrysanthemums, mountain ashes, camellias, maples, firs, cherries and birches.

The walk through the Arboretum is enhanced by little bridges, ponds, delicate pathways and waterfront parks.  And, of course, it will be Spring which means observing the Arboretum at one of the loveliest times of year.  The highlights in late March include camellia, flowering cherry, corylopsis, daphne, forsythia, heather, hellebore, magnolia, rhododendron, witch hazel, azaleas, barberry, camellia, halesia, maple, madrona and serviceberry.

The Easter Bunny will be encouraging walkers with carrots and candy.  There will also be a drawing for a pair of New Balances shoes.  In addition, a colorful patch and hatpin will be available to commemorate the event.

The route utlizes sidewalks and gravel trails.  Not suitable for wheelchairs.  Strollers may have difficulty.  Dogs welcome on leash.
