On the Trail in the Northwest:
Snohomish: Centennial Trail
YRE 991 -- pg 1

Snohomish is a "Saturday town" -- a fun place to go for a weekend day trip.  It has a marvelous collection of Victorian homes, and the old downtown has been converted into a shopping area with antique stores and cute restaurants.

Snohomish has also, in recent years, become quite a thriving Seattle 'commute' town.  We were startled to see all the new strip malls on our drive in.  Fortunately, none of that is visible from the walk itself.

The walk, which we did on one of the two days in Seattle when it snowed, begins in the Victorian residential district.  On these streets you'll enjoy plenty of quaint old homes and churches.  . . .

The second portion of the walk takes place on a rails-to-trails called the Snohomish County Centennial Trail.  This trail starts in Snohomish and will eventually extend into Skagit County.  The completed portion currently stops at Lake Stevens, about three-and-a-half miles from the trail start in Snohomish.  This 11K YRE spends about 4K on the Trail.

The Centennial Trail begins in the town of Snohomish and then quickly takes you into a more rural setting.  The Trail, like all rails-to-trails, is broad and flat and motor traffic free.  We followed it out about 2K to a trailhead/parking lot which was our turn around point.  Along the way we saw horses, some pretty farmland, a pond or two and lots of trees.  The turn around point itself was nice with benches, a restroom and info boards about the Trail.  . . .
