On the Trail in the Northwest:
Sequim: Olympic Discovery Trail
YRE 834 -- pg 1

The Olympic Discovery Trail is a 100 + mile trail that will eventually link Port Townsend with Forks.  When completed, it will be one of the longest such trails in the country.  But currently, it is still in sections.

The Sequim YRE begins at Railroad Bridge Park, a trailhead.  The bridge and river are quite lovely here, though it was close to flooding on the February day I walked it. . . .

The first 4K or so of the walk is on the Olympic Discovery Trail.  This is by far the nicest part of the walk, though the Trail scenery is a bit spotty.  In some places, the Trail goes through rural areas with lots of trees and views of farms.  It is particularly rural by the Sequim airport.  In a few places, though, the Trail runs up against private property of a decidedly dumpy nature.

One of the best things about this rails-to-trails was that it was mostly gravel.  That makes a nice soft surface for knees and even on the rainy day I was there, puddles were at a minimum. . .
