On the Trail in the Northwest:
Port Angeles: Waterfront Trail
YRE 361

The Port Angeles Urban Waterfront Trail is an 8 mile asphalt recreation trail that runs along the water (for the most part) through Port Angeles.

The YRE starts in downtown Port Angeles and within a few blocks, you are on the Waterfront Trail. . . .

The Trail wanders right next to the water for a short while.  There are benches with many memorial plaques in this section, giving it an almost shrine-like flavor.   You soon reach the ferry terminal.

From here, the Trail turns inland a bit and then heads into a more industrial marine harbor and boat haven.  There are many ships, large and small, on view. . . .

About half way through the walk, the YRE route leaves the Waterfront Trail and heads straight up a hill.  You then return to downtown Port Angeles from a hilltop neighborhood.  The views were wonderful from up there--with the water on one side and the Olympics close at hand on the other.

Descending from the hilltop, the route takes you window shopping downtown as you return to the starting point.

This is a very scenic YRE, highly recommended.  Thanks to Olympic Peninsula Explorers.
